AE OS
Our own take on Windows 11.
AE OS is the experimental software direction of 728: a set of changes, settings and tools on top of Windows 11 for a more controlled and flexible working environment.
What it is not
Not a separate operating system.
AE OS is not a separate operating system with its own kernel. Windows 11 remains the base. The project changes the user and system layer on top of it.
Performance
Only what the scenario needs
Optimise the standard Windows configuration and remove the components a given scenario does not need.
- Background services
- Startup
- System tasks
- Telemetry
- Power usage
- Network settings
- User interface
Flexibility
A level of change per machine
Choose the level of modification for a specific machine and scenario. One configuration for a gaming system, another for a workstation, a third as a relatively minimal Windows without most standard components.
- Gaming system
- Workstation
- Minimal Windows
User layer
A user layer of its own
In time AE OS should differ not only in its internal settings but in its own visual identity and user layer.
- Theming
- System presets
- Settings bundles
- Extra tools
- Configuration automation
- Component management
- 728 services where they are genuinely useful
Status
MVP in development.
Early versions already used deep changes to Windows, removed individual components and applied system tweaks. The next step is moving from a set of manual modifications to a reproducible, documented and managed system. AE OS is not a universal replacement for ordinary Windows yet.
